Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced apple
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the cheddar cheese and diced apple.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk the heavy cream and egg together, then pour into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for the best texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough to keep the scones tender.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
