- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer half the potato slices in the dish.
- Sprinkle half the cheddar and Parmesan cheese over the potatoes.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese.
- In a saucepan, heat cream, milk, butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until warm.
- Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a crispier top, broil for the last 3-5 minutes.
- Substitute Gruyère for cheddar for a different flavor.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
