A delicious and easy baked French toast casserole perfect for breakfast or brunch. Assemble the night before and bake in the morning for a hassle-free meal.

  • 1 loaf French bread (about 16 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread bread cubes evenly in the dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Pour mixture over bread cubes, pressing down to ensure all pieces are soaked.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle topping over casserole.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set.
  9. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for best texture.
  • Can substitute half-and-half for milk and cream.
  • Add 1 cup fresh berries before baking for variation.
