A classic Italian-American pasta dish with layers of ziti, cheese, and tomato sauce, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ziti according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Combine cooked ziti with the cheese mixture and marinara sauce.
  5. Grease a baking dish with olive oil and spread half of the ziti mixture.
  6. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella on top.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use whole milk ricotta for creamier texture.
  • Add cooked ground beef or sausage for extra protein.
  • Cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.
