Crispy, golden mushroom pakoras made with fresh mushrooms and a spiced chickpea flour batter. Perfect as a snack or appetizer.

  • 200g mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice mushrooms. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, mix chickpea flour, rice flour, red chili powder, turmeric, cumin seeds, garam masala, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add water gradually to form a thick, smooth batter.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  5. Dip each mushroom slice into the batter, coating evenly.
  6. Fry in hot oil until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.

Notes

  • Use fresh mushrooms for best texture.
  • Adjust spices to your taste.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying.
  • For extra crispiness, add a little more rice flour.
