A rich and decadent dessert made in a crockpot, featuring cherries and chocolate for a molten lava effect.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pitted cherries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Grease the inside of your crockpot with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  4. Fold in cherries and chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the crockpot.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix boiling water and brown sugar until dissolved.
  7. Pour the sugar-water mixture gently over the batter. Do not stir.
  8. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or until the top is set.
  9. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not stir after adding the sugar-water mixture.
  • Check the cake after 1.5 hours to prevent overcooking.
  • Fresh cherries work best, but frozen can be used if thawed.
