A classic deep-dish apple pie with a flaky crust and sweet, spiced apple filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 6 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  3. Add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough forms.
  4. Divide dough into two discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Toss apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  6. Roll out one dough disc and fit into a deep pie dish.
  7. Fill with apple mixture.
  8. Roll out the second disc, place on top, and crimp edges.
  9. Cut slits in the top crust and brush with egg wash.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
  • Chill the dough to prevent shrinking during baking.
  • Cover edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
