A classic Dutch apple pie with a crumbly topping and spiced apple filling.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 6 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix flour and granulated sugar in a bowl.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles crumbs.
  4. Beat egg and stir into the mixture to form a dough.
  5. Press dough into a pie dish and chill for 15 minutes.
  6. Toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  7. Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture.
  8. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over the apples.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best results.
  • Chilling the dough prevents shrinking.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
