Ingredients
Scale
6 cups cubed day-old bread
2 large apples, peeled and diced
3 large eggs
2 cups milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Place the bread cubes and diced apples in the prepared dish. Toss them together.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the milk, sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Mix well.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread and apples. Press down gently to soak the bread.
Let it stand for 10 minutes so the bread absorbs the liquid.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The top should be golden and the center set.
Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use stale or slightly toasted bread for better absorption.
You can replace some of the milk with heavy cream for a richer texture.
Add raisins or chopped nuts if you like extra texture.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
