Apple Brown Betty is a warm baked dessert with spiced apples and a crunchy buttery crumb topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  3. In another bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter until combined.
  4. Layer half of the apple mixture in a greased 8-inch baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle half of the breadcrumb mixture over the apples.
  6. Repeat with remaining apples and breadcrumbs.
  7. Pour water evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
