Apple Walnut Charoset is a sweet, chunky mixture eaten during Passover seders. It reminds us of the mortar used by Jewish slaves in Egypt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup sweet red wine
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Mix diced apples, chopped walnuts, and lemon zest in a bowl.
  2. Stir in honey and cinnamon.
  3. Pour wine over the mixture and toss until well coated.
  4. Cover and let sit for at least 30 minutes to blend flavors.
  5. Serve at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use fresh, crisp apples like Granny Smith or Fuji.
  • Toast walnuts lightly for extra flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
