This is a classic homemade lasagna recipe. It layers rich meat sauce, creamy béchamel, and pasta. It is hearty and satisfying.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook until soft.
  4. Add ground beef. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in milk. Cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  8. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  9. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish.
  10. Layer 4 noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture.
  11. Sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella. Pour one-third of the béchamel sauce.
  12. Repeat layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, béchamel.
  13. Finish with remaining noodles, meat sauce, béchamel, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  14. Cover with foil. Bake for 25 minutes.
  15. Remove foil. Bake for another 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  16. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or lentils.
  • Make sure to use no-boil noodles for a faster version.
  • Let the lasagna rest before cutting to keep layers intact.
