Chocolate turtle cookies combine rich chocolate dough with caramel and pecan toppings. They are chewy, sweet, and perfect for dessert.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel bits
  • 1/2 cup pecan halves for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined.
  6. Fold in chopped pecans and caramel bits.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Press a pecan half into the top of each cookie.
  9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The edges should be set and the centers soft.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • You can substitute caramel bits with soft caramel candies cut into small pieces.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
