Ingredients
Scale
1 (3 to 4 pound) beef brisket, trimmed of excess fat
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
Season the brisket on all sides with salt and pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned.
Place the seared brisket in the slow cooker.
In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Pour the sauce mixture over the brisket.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
Remove the brisket from the slow cooker. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
Serve with the sauce from the slow cooker.
Notes
For a thicker sauce, you can mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir it into the slow cooker juices during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
You can trim more fat from the brisket before cooking for a leaner result.
