A simple slow cooker brisket recipe. The meat becomes tender and flavorful with a savory sauce. You set it and forget it.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 4 pound) beef brisket, trimmed of excess fat
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Season the brisket on all sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned.
  3. Place the seared brisket in the slow cooker.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the brisket.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
  7. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  8. Serve with the sauce from the slow cooker.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, you can mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir it into the slow cooker juices during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • You can trim more fat from the brisket before cooking for a leaner result.
