Muhammara is a smoky red pepper and walnut dip from Syria. You blend roasted peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs, and pomegranate molasses for a sweet and tangy flavor.

2 large red bell peppers
1 cup walnuts
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons pomegranate molasses
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 clove garlic
Salt to taste
Instructions
Roast the red peppers under a broiler until their skin is charred. Place them in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let them steam for 10 minutes. Peel off the skin and remove seeds.
Toast the walnuts in a dry pan over medium heat for 3 minutes. Let them cool.
Add the peeled peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs, pomegranate molasses, olive oil, cumin, red pepper flakes, and garlic to a food processor. Blend until smooth.
Taste the dip and add salt as needed. Blend again to combine.
Transfer the muhammara to a serving bowl. Serve with pita bread or vegetables.
Notes
You can use jarred roasted red peppers to save time.
Adjust the red pepper flakes for your preferred heat level.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to one week.
