These salted caramel apple pie bars combine a buttery shortbread crust, a spiced apple filling, and a drizzle of salted caramel. They are easy to make and perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 4 medium apples)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the crust: In a bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmly into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake the crust for 15 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven.
  4. While the crust bakes, prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked crust.
  6. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until apples are tender.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into bars. Serve at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for best flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • You can make your own caramel sauce or use store-bought.
