This slow cooker apple butter is smooth, sweet, and full of autumn flavor. You only need a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 pounds apples (mix of sweet and tart), peeled, cored, sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place sliced apples in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add sugars, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
  3. Turn off slow cooker. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. Alternatively, transfer in batches to a blender and blend carefully.
  4. Return puree to slow cooker. Cook uncovered on low for 2 more hours to thicken, stirring occasionally.
  5. Let cool completely. Transfer to jars or containers. Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for deeper flavor. Granny Smith and Fuji work well.
  • Adjust sugar to your taste. You can reduce both sugars by half.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the butter after blending.
  • Store in airtight containers. Refrigerate or freeze.
