A baked apple dessert with a crisp coating and sweet center, similar to bloomin’ onion style.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers or cereal flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Core each apple from the top, leaving the bottom intact. Slice the top part into thin wedges, fanning them out slightly.
  3. Mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and crushed graham crackers.
  5. Dip each apple in the butter mixture, then roll in the dry mixture, pressing to coat.
  6. Place apples in a baking dish. Spoon remaining butter mixture over the tops.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until apples are tender and coating is golden.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apples to hold shape.
  • You can skip the graham crackers for a gluten-free option.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
