Ingredients
Scale
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3 tablespoons milk
Food coloring (optional)
Halloween-themed sprinkles or icing for decoration
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Add egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk. Beat until combined.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. If using food coloring, add it now.
Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a fork or your palm.
Decorate with Halloween sprinkles or leave plain for icing later.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Notes
Chill the dough for 30 minutes if it is too sticky to handle.
Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
